Children’s Festival of the Book wins prize

We are excited to announce that Children’s Festival of the Book has received the 2019 Montana Center for the Book Prize presented by Humanities Montana. This award is given in recognition of excellent work promoting literacy and literature within the state.

November 9, 2019 marks the 12th annual Children’s Festival of the Book and we will welcome illustrator Sophie Blackall, Caldecott Medalist for Hello Lighthouse (2019) and Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World’s Most Famous Bear (2016); author-illustrator Brian Floca, winner of the 2014 Caldecott Medal for Moonshot: The Flight of Apollo 11, and Lightship; and Susan Adrian, award-winning Montana author of recent middle-grade novels Forever Neverland and Nutcracked.

The Festival brings celebrated national authors and illustrators to Bozeman where young readers can meet and interact with them. The authors and illustrators visit select local schools and convene at the Library for presentations, book sales and signings, and writing workshops. A young writers and illustrators contest are also held each year.

The Festival continues to grow and inspire. Last year we reached over 2,000 local students! The popularity of Children’s Festival of the Book has prompted us to expand the program to a teen audience with our 2nd annual Bozeman Teen Book Fest, which will be held April 2, 2020.

Private donations the Bozeman Public Library Foundation fund programs like Children’s Festival of the Book that support what may be the first library experiences for young children and their families and can launch a lifelong passion for reading.
